Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan are now the subjects of the book and film Hidden Figures. They were “human computers” at the national advisory committee for aeronautics.
In-spite of the racial and gender discrimination, these women were part of a larger team of female mathematicians calculating orbital trajectories for space explorations. These women paved the way for women in STEM fields for years to come through their determination and intelligence.
